Grace In-Transit > The Jet Set
Somehow, celebrities make travel look effortless, from posing for
paparazzi at JFK to strutting in stilettos at Heathrow. They maintain
rosy skin and carry only their impossibly compact designer bags.
Kind of makes the rest of us want to cower under the hoods of our
zip-up sweatshirts. Follow these tips and you too can flit from
destination to destination with a carefree air:
Discourage dehydration, your number one travel enemy.
- Fight dehydration with water, pure and simple. Bring a large
water bottle on board and hydrate with abandon. ·
- Avoid cocktails, coffee and cola. Alcohol and caffeine enhance
the effects of dehydration.
- Satiate thirsty skin with a mineral water atomizer and carry
moisturizing eye drops for your eyes.
Stave off stress with a strategically packed carry-on haven.
- Tune out with a personal compact disc player. Soothing music
makes for a pleasant aural escape.
- Have herbal tea bags or homeopathic herbal capsules on hand.
Select blends that will send you off to dream land.
- Slip into cozy slippers and keep your feet propped-up on your
carry-on to reduce cabin pressure-induced foot swelling.
- Cut the chill by bringing a sweater or cozy wrap
- Inflate a travel neck pillow to prevent cramps and promote
relaxation.
- Take a walk around the cabin every 1-2 hours to stretch your
legs and improve circulation.
Nourish your body, under any conditions.
- Steer clear of most plane food, which is often high in fat and
even higher in sodium.
- Fight puffiness by avoiding salty foods like tomato juice and
nuts.
- When making reservations, request a vegetarian or low-fat meal,
most likely preferable alternatives to traditional coach class
cuisine.
- Better yet, pack a healthy snack. Bring granola, rice cakes
with peanut butter, turkey and cheese pitas, and fruit and vegetables
to keep you nourished.
