Aromatherapy relies on the sense of smell as a window to the mind,
body and soul. In the practice of aromatherapy, essential oil extractions
heal the spirit, soothe the psyche and nourish the skin and hair.
Scott J. of Scott J. Aveda Lifestyle Salon and Spas views aromatherapy
as a sensory awakening that prepares the mind and body for relaxation.
He explains, "When you smell cookies baking, you think of home.
When you smell essential oils, you think of nurturing your body."
In addition to its innate benefits, aromatherapy sets the stage
for all things spa.
Aromatherapy Methods:
- Treat Skin: Essential oils may be applied directly to
the skin if diluted first with vegetable oils. Be conservative -
a drop or two goes a long way.
- Inhale Vapors: Bring a pot of water to a slow boil. Remove
pot from heat and add 2-3 drops of essential oil to steaming water.
Cover your head with a towel and inhale the soothing vapors. ·
- Scent Your Surroundings: Place 4-5 drops of essential
oil with water in the basin of a candle burning diffuser. Alternatively,
purchase candles fragranced with pure essential oils.
- Bathe: Enhance a bath with 2-3 drops of essential oil.
Relax as you soak your body and soothe your soul.
- Personalize Your Products: Adding essential oils to fragrance-free
skin lotions and shampoos.
