Concierge.com, the Travel Supersite, Arrives on the Web
NEW YORK (October 14, 1999) -- Concierge.com, the travel supersite, makes its official debut this week with top-brand information about more than 500 destinations around the world -- and an exciting sweepstakes that'll send the winners on a luxury vacation they've planned for themselves.
Concierge.com is the home of Condé Nast Traveler magazine on the World Wide Web, and features extensive information from other big travel brands, including thousands of hotel and restaurant reviews supplied by Fodor's Travel Publications.
"Concierge.com finally delivers what travelers have always wanted from the Web," said Laurence Hooper, the site's general manager. "Until now, Web users had to hunt down information on six or seven different travel sites in order to plan a great trip. We've put all that stuff in one place, made sure it's authoritative and up-to-date, and made it easy for users to book trips based on their research."
Major features on Concierge.com include more than 7,000 high-quality photographs; a panel of travel experts who'll answer questions from site users; weather summaries and interactive maps; reading suggestions and user discussions; currency conversions; and useful links to other Web sites. The new site serves as the online base of Condé Nast Traveler, which won the 1999 National Magazine Award for General Excellence. Popular features from Traveler, including the famed Gold List, appear on Concierge.com, and site users are offered a low rate on Traveler subscriptions.
Booking services from Expedia.com are tightly integrated throughout the site: With just one click, users may see bargain airfares to the exact destination they've been browsing, for example, or check room availability at the very hotel for which they've just read a review.
To introduce travelers to the site, Concierge.com is offering the "Dream It to Win It" vacation sweepstakes. Users may custom-design their own luxury vacation by selecting a destination, a hotel and a restaurant from among the 30,000 reviewed on the site -- regardless of price. If their entry is chosen in a random drawing, Concierge.com will send them on the exact vacation they've designed. Air travel for the grand prize is provided by Delta Air Lines.
Second prize is a $2,000 set of luggage from elite luggage company T. Anthony; other prizes include leather passport covers from T. Anthony. Full details and rules are accessible from the Concierge.com homepage.
In the months after its launch, Concierge.com will expand quickly to add yet more information about its 500-plus destinations; to offer exclusive travel bargains to its users; to allow users to tailor the site according to their personal interests; and to feature travelogues, reviews and ratings from Concierge.com users.
Concierge.com (www.Concierge.com) is produced by Condé Net, an Internet unit of Condé Nast. Other CondéNet sites include Epicurious (www.Epicurious.com), PHYS (www.phys.com) Swoon (www.swoon.com) and the newly launched Vogue.com fashion site (www.vogue.com).
"As with all our sites, Concierge.com is about making high-quality information both accessible and easy to act upon," said CondéNet Director Sarah Chubb. "It sets a new standard for travel sites on the Web -- and will make life easier for the growing number of travelers who use the Web to plan their trips."
